So, I was thinking the other day, how blessed I actually am that my car was totalled! I know, i know, you probably are thinking that I'm crazy, but hear me out.
If they hadn't totalled her, they would have paid for the repairs and charged me $500 for the deductible. This would put me $653 in the hole (ticked included). However, because they did total her, they sent me a check from which they had already subtracted the deductible and the salvage fee. This puts me wayyy out of the hole. Then I get to have the car fixed out of my own pocket (which is now bulging) and then I end up with a little extra (hopefully). Do you see how this is good? I am not in the hole, but rather have made money on the deal! Only God can orchestrate something like that out of such a terrible mess! Of course, once I pay all my friends back for the gas they have used up helping me out I may not be so rich... : )
And here's my oops for the day. I got a letter in the mail today that said that I have to return my title to the DOL and then they will reissue it when I have my rebuilt car inspected. Apparently, I drove it illegally to Kingston this morning. : o Oh well. too late now!
So my car is now in the shop getting said repairs, and hopefully will be mine again soon, after I get everything straightened out with the title, the police and the insurance co. I also found out tonight (in one of my five letters from Pemco!) that once i submit my title, and get my car fixed, I have to get a temporary permit that will allow me to drive it to the police station or wherever. and this can be obtained from the DOL (for a small fee) What, I wonder, is a small fee?

What a deal!
dear Lyd,
don't worry about driving illegally. >:) you didn't mean to. anyway - i'm glad this is all working out.
however, have you noticed that most of your post titles end with exclamation points? you might want to watch that over-enthusiasm.
;)
- your sis
Lyd,
First off: the profitability of totaling cars. I had a 1967 Mustang, my dream car, through the mid part of college. At the very begining of my senior year, I stopped for the car in front of me, but the guy behind me did not. It was totaled. I was devastated. My roomate told others, "Adam didn't loose his car... he lost his girlfriend". I will never love a car like that again...too much pain.
However, after a bit of legwork, I got $2000 some odd for it AND after buying a new car for $1000, (the Tamm machine now dubbed "Mazda-rati"), I still had enough to live on for that whole fall semester, (in addition to flying home to Phoenix for Christmas).
The second thing: Grant and I dig-on junkyards, annoying odds and ends on your machine we could easily, (and inexpensively) eliminate.
I have left a tome again.
there ya go, lyd. follow the mazdarati.
