Well friends, my car was subjected to unfair torture for the ninth time yesterday! I was minding my own business in a parking lot on my lunch break, stopped to let a van finish backing into a space, when I was bumped by another car pulling out behind me. Now, my car has been through a lot, and scrapes and dents are nothing new for a car that has lived through 3 teenage girls learning to drive. I was mentally preparing myself as I stepped out of the car- should I even bother to collect information from the other driver? Did I even have a pen? I decided that I would get his information, and then make a decision later, once I'd had some time to think.
I got out to view the damage, and as I did, a woman approached me and said rudely, "He didn't hit you, you know." I was thinking- ok, then what did I feel? Who did hit me?" She told me it must have been a passerby slapping my car. Weirded out, I looked at the scrape. I told her that it hadn't been there before! She left, and then as I turned to look at the other driver, he pulled away, shouting, "I didn't hit you!" Let me tell you, I live in a weird part of town.
As he pulled away, several other women approached me and said, "We saw the whole thing, he most certainly did hit you!" I glanced at his departing bumper, and most certainly saw a matching scrape. One of the women said to me with a twinkle in her eye, "Would you like the license plate number?" I was impressed that she had memorized it for me. The other lady gave me her name and number so I could use her as a witness- she was in the van that I was waiting for in the first place.
I went on my merry way, to get to my phone (which of course I had left at home that morning!) I called the police (after much trouble to find the number- can I just say that I hate automated systems?) "I'm sorry, did you say Everett Public School System?" "No, I said EVERETT POLICE" (this is me now shouting at the phone)
Anyway, I finally heard back from the police, and they were happy to retrieve the phone number of the driver of the other car. He says he didn't do it. The police are now done. Thanks.
It seems funny to me- shouldn't they be writing him a ticket or something?
I called my insurance company this morning, and they (nicely) told me to try to obtain his insurance information, so that I don't have to pay a deductable if I do file a claim. Yeah right. I can see how that will go down:
"Hi, my name is Lydia- you hit my car yesterday and I need your insurance info"
"No. I didn't hit you."
"Yes, you did!"
"Click!"
So... I guess I'm just waiting for... I don't know what. Vindication? Anyone have any ideas?
The silliest part about it all is that it's just a scratch and a small dent. I was prepared to just forgive him if he apologized, but then he had to go and drive off! What is this world coming to?

That is one of the most annoying things I have ever heard. Maybe you can just buff it out though, if it's not too big a scrape. It's probably too big of a hassle to mess with the law. At least "vengeance is mine saith the Lord" :)
Yeah, I have decided to just let it go. Delores has enough random scratches that it's barely noticeable. You are right- it's too big of a hassle, and hopefully his guilt will eat him alive... >: )
