It's Raining, It's Pouring

I am always up for an adventure. This is a very good thing when things just seem to happen to me. Like my own personal version of Chinese Water Torture at 1:30 in the morning...

I went to bed and fell asleep like any other night. After a while, I slowly drifted back into consciousness with a strange sound lulling me out of my sleep. I could hear this constant "click... click...click." In my fuzzy state of mind, it sounded like someone was snapping back and forth a clicky pen, somewhere in my room. But then my more logical side kicked in, and I realized that I was indeed alone in my room, and that there was no good reason why I would be the one holding the clicky pen. I flipped on my light and reached over to where the noise was originating. Sure enough, there was a puddle the size of a watermelon just next to me on my bed. I looked up to the ceiling, and saw a nice soft spot, dripping down with an amazingly perfect rhythm. I got up, thinking, "What do they do in the movies? I need a bucket!" But, of course, what single girl has a bunch of buckets lying around her apt? I found a bowl that I hoped was large enough to contain the flowing spring, and set it where my blankets had previously been. Now the noise was amplified in the empty plastic bowl. "PLUNK!... PLUNK..." Not only that, it was splashing everywhere when it hit. I guess coming six feet down will do that. I racked my brain for ideas, and saw a towel lying nearby. I stuffed it in the bowl, and noted with satisfaction that the noise was instantly muffled. I then gathered my pillow, and reached for my blankets to go sleep on the couch, since the drippy bowl had taken up residence of my bed. I quickly realized that my blankets would be of no use to me, because I am such a heavy sleeper that the water had soaked through nearly all of the ten layers I sleep under! Yikes. Luckily, I keep spares.

So now, I have given up my room to the drip, and have taken up residence elsewhere. Hopefully they will be able to come and fix it soon, but even when they repair the roof, they will still have to come in and redo the drywall over my bed... Ahh, adventure...

Bummer dude.

One thing that comes in handy when you need a bucket: garbage cans. A big plastic one will do the trick.

Update!!! I finally bugged the leasing office staff about fixing my leak, and lo and behold, last night when I came home there was a notice on my counter that they had been in to apply the first layer of mud. funny thing is, i was in my room all night and didn't notice the glob of mud on my ceiling or the note on the counter until this morning! so who knows the next time they will be in there to fix the rest of it... at least now i can move the bowl and towel setup i have!
