An adventure around every corner!

Wow! What a crazy weekend! (And it's not even over!) First I survived an earthquake on Thursday evening (did anyone else feel it? I think it must have been terribly small, because I believe my apt wasn't too far from the epicenter, and I couldn't tell if it was an earthquake or just Bruce wiggling the dinner table!) But! I do distinctly remember thinking, "Was that an earthquake?" Turns out I was right!

Then, I went over to P-bo on Thursday night to be with my family, and yesterday we worked on moving stuff and unpacking and undusting, etc. We managed to move in two carloads and one huge truckload of stuff, and even got most of it to the right place in the new house. The newest struggle is finding places to put everything! Who ever thought we'd run short on kitchen cupboards?

Well, the real adventure started at about midnight last night, when we lost all power. Now, keep in mind, the Hitchman family has survived plenty of power outages, but in the past we have had the conveniences of gas fireplaces, woodstoves, WATER, you know, the basics! We do have a gas frpl in the new place, but of course, it's not hooked up yet! As for the emphasis on the water, when you are on a well system, you lose all water when you lose power! Yeah, so we couldn't shower, wash anything, flush... it proved to be an interesting morning. I must say though, the ingenuity award goes to Mom, who managed to rig up a stove of sorts with a cake pan, a cooling rack and a can of sterno! We had coffee, tea, and hot soup for lunch! Go Mom!

I can complain no longer about the power outage though, because here I am safe and warm on the other side of the water, and my family still shivers in the cold. Hopefully not for too much longer! I hope the rest of you are faring well!
