Dear Friends,
Let me tell you about my recent car repair adventures. So, about a month ago, I locked my keys in my car, and long story short, my drivers' side lock was broken in the process of trying to break back in. So, my car had a little visit to the Subaru dealer while I was in Scotland, and everything was just fine. Well, normally I'm the only one who rides in my car, so it was a little while before I realized that a certain snazzy feature was no longer available. It used to be that I could turn my key in the lock and unlock all the doors... this worked no longer... a minor inconvenience, really, but it worked before, and I thought the dealership should be able to set it to rights with minor difficulty. I took it in, and was all ready to fight them if they should challenge my statement that the lock worked great before. I received a call a day later saying that "we're sorry, but the part you need is a special order part that will cost about $300. Is that ok?" I was like, "Of course it's not ok! My lock worked fine until you fixed it!!!" But, unfortunately I can't ever really say things like that. I did question him thoroughly though, and he insisted that it was because the old lock and the old mechanism that makes all the doors work together had grown old together and thus they both still worked fine. But putting a new lock on that was tighter simply wouldn't work with the old mechanism. It made me think of the whole putting new wines in old wineskins passage in one of the gospels... Anyway!
So, I told him that I really didn't need it fixed that bad, and I would just pick up my car that day. He said he'd call when it was ready, yada, yada. Not five minutes later, he called back- I was thinking- wow, that was quick! He proceeded to inform me that during the process of removing the panel from my door, the mechanic had managed to ding it. He said, "So, we need to get a new part in for you, free of charge of course (uh, yeah!!!) - can you wait until Friday to pick it up? I said that I could, and he then said, "Ok, so Friday is our holiday party here, and we close at 4. Maybe it will be done on Saturday, is that ok?" By this time I was trying so hard not to laugh- it was so absurd. (Hence the title!) Luckily, I'm not one of those materialistic types, so if they ding my door I'm pretty chill, as long as they replace it. And, I'm driving one of their loan cars, which is wayyyy nicer than my own anyday. It's a 2005 Subaru Forester- sort of a mix between a wagon and a SUV. Pretty schnappy navy blue shininess and great turn radius for such a large vehicle. It even has a remote for locking and unlocking (yeah, I'm deprived, I know) But, I've been having fun. If they don't want to finish Delores until next week, I'd be ok. : ) Ooh, yeah, and it has a CD player (another bonus completely foreign to me)
On to other news... I received a call from the head honcho lady in the Starbucks RMT program- I have a interview tentatively set for Wed, Dec 14 at 11:00 am- provided I can find someone to open for me or cover enough of my shift so that I can be there with plenty of time to spare! Whoohoo! Now I just have to make sure I'm ready!

Lyd, that's sweet that you have a car to drive while yours is in the shop. Mine decided to not drive up the mountain anymore, so it is in the shop too, and I have been relying on kind souls like Jessica and Patty to drive me around. I would just walk to work, but it has been pouring...
Keep us posted on how the interview goes! This is so exciting!
love ya
Hey Lyd,
Let me know what year and model your car is. I'm sure I can track down your part for alot less than $300. It should just be an actuator. Anyhow, once it comes in, I've got someone who could install it for you too. Take care!
